The crowd in Parco Sempione was treated to an amazing final under sunny skies in downtown Milan today. The qualifier was extremely tight, and many new faces were making their presence known. Young American Tyler McCaul put together impressive runs, but was just shy of making the cut into the finals. He will be one of the many riders making the trip down to the infamous Estadio Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain next week for another shot at qualifying for the final Nissan Qashqai Challenge Events.

The fifteen finalists ran in reverse order, ending with the top qualifier Martin Soederstrom from Sweden. In the finals the wind picked up and riders had to be strategic with their three runs, as their two best scores were combined. Some of the riders like Norway’s Trond Hansen and Switzerland’s Mischa Breitenstein played their cards well and earned their spots in the final challenge events.

In the first round of the finals, Trond uncorked a clean front flip over the final jump for a good first round score. In his next round he earned the highest score of the day as the first rider to pull a clean 360 over the first jump, straight into a one-footed 360 invert, followed by a tire grab to set up for an opposite 360 over the last double. “The last two hours went just perfect, being qualified for the Nissan Qashqai Challenge competition feels just great!” beamed Trond after the award ceremony.

Congratulations to Trond Hansen, Mischa Breitenstein, Sam Pilgrim, Kurt Sorge, and Damjan Siriski for earning spots in the final Qashqai Challenge Events in Munich and London. Some of the other highlights of the day were Adam Hauck’s 720, Kurt Sorge’s superman to pendulum air, Alex Reveles’s Indian airs, Mitch Chubey's flipwhips and Tyler McCaul’s no footed can can x-ups.

Statement on new Nissan Challenge venue line-up:
“Nissan confirms that its Qashqai Challenge tour will now take place across four European capitals this year. Paris has not been included this time, but we hope to have it back in next year’s line-up. This development will not affect any of the competitors and the Nissan Qashqai Challenge remains Europe’s only urban freeride series with an overall tour prize fund of $250,000 US Dollars.”

Nissan Qashqai: Milan

Bron: Pinkbike

On Monday 500 m/3 of dirt have been delivered to the Parco Sempione in Milan for the first Nissan Qashqai Challenge event. Within two days the course designers have created a little moon landscape with huge dirt jumps, which are getting ready for the action. The park visitors are passing and wondering what will happen there, they might not know yet. But on April 25th and 26th Parco Sempione, right by the old soccer stadium, will be the place to be not only for the spectators, but also for the best and most ambitious riders for the first Nissan Qashqai Challenge Open 2008.
In total 40 riders from 13 countries - ranging from Puerto Rico to Slovenia - are about to give their best on a nice shaped dirt track. The construction is ongoing these days. Markus Hampl already built last year's Nissan Qashqai Challenge dirt course. But this time the jumps will be even bigger: An about six meters high roll in will secure the needed speed for the 100 meters long line consisting of four huge sized doubles. The first gap will provide the most airtime and the highest amplitude. Seven meters from the take off to the landing will give the attending progressive young riders the opportunity to show their hardest rocking tricks in front of numerous yelling spectators.

Following riders are up to get the challenge started:

Sea Otter: Kyle Strait wint eerste Dual Stunt

Bron: Pinkbike

After qualifying fastest yesterday for the brand new SRAM Dual Stunt event here at Sea Otter, Kyle Strait went on to dominate the event and take it all the way for the win.

The course featured various obstacles such as leg sapping stall walls, wall rides, boxes, steps and narrow north shore wooden ramps, and riders went head to head in a dual slalom format on a red then black course.
With racing starting at a round of 16, it meant riders had to recover from sprinting over the various obstacles like the 8 foot high stall walls, then backing it up to go at it again. Much like the speed trials seen at the TEVA Games in Vail, Colorado, it's all about being smooth and strong.

Kyle said: "Yesterday's qualifying was pretty tricky, it was so gusty and you had to make sure you didn't get blown off line, but today it was a lot more stable, so I just focused on remaining consistent. My mechanic Ryan had the bike fully dialed so there were no mechanical issues, and I just tried to keep something in reserve so I was strong for the finals. It means a lot to me to do well at Sea Otter, it's like a home event for me, and I've worked really hard on my strength over winter so it's paying off. I think the format's really cool and I hope they run it again next year".

Kyle is sponsored by Oakley, Specialized, Red Bull, Hayes, SUNringle, FUNN, Fox Shox, 661, Deity, e.thirteen, SDG, Crank Brothers, SRAM and Chris King.

SDG Dirt Comp 2008

Jow het gaat weer gebeuren

We zijn nog wel de details aan het plannen, maar dit is even de groffe indeling:

26 April - Drachten, Sportcomplex "De Fennen" (KIKA fonds)
18 Mei - Hellentrails, Goirle
29 Juni - Heerenveen (vast)
20 Juli - A4 Trails, Rijswijk (Finale + Kona Demo)

Cheers Sjors (SDG)
